Grazing Systems Ltd

At GSL we diagnose the causes of underperforming farm businesses and prescribe a management remedy by the application of production economics to livestock farming businesses.

We sell farm systems analysis to farmers directly or alternatively to their accountants, their veterinarians, their advisors and their service providers for on marketing to farming clients.

Our farm business analysis is unique because it is firstly, energy based. We cost and optimise the different inputs for maximum sustainable farming profit when producing products in a timely seasonal manner for sale in variable priced markets.

Secondly our analysis is based on the principles of sustainable farm production by assessing the cost and benefit of purchased inputs and avoiding the excesses of over or under utilisation of farm resources.

We do this by applying the simplifying technology of computer based Linear Programming to the complex of bio dynamic resources available to livestock producers.

Although designed for New Zealand’s internationally recognized pastoral farming system the technology has world wide application to farm businesses where managers must profitably produce and allocate a range of resources to their production system.

Definition of Linear Programming – A mathematical technique used to obtain an optimum solution in resource allocation problems such as production planning. LP is a practical tool used to solve complex decision problems, i.e. problems beyond the capacity of the human brain to solve except by instinct.
